You start with a drive up the Gran Sasso Massive to a 10th-Century fortress overlooking the Tirino Vally.
Lunch on traditional food in a local restaurant set in an 500 year old building.
Visit the village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio. considered one of the most beautiful villages in all of Italy.
Then you see church frescos that were done in 1263 - 250 years before that other Chapel in Vatican City
The Adriatic Coast
A trip to the coast to see fishing platforms only found in Abruzzo and the Canadian WWII cemetery near Ortona.
Lunch at a local fish restaurant in the beach town of San Vito or a picnic in a nature reserve.
Then you visit San Giovanni in Venere, a medieval abbey built on top for a former Roman temple of Venus.
We go inland to the Roman ruins at Alba Fucens where 60,000 people once lived. There’s a 12th century church built on the foundation of a Temple of Apollo and a fantastic amphitheater. After lunch in a local restaurant, we visit a medieval ghost town.
Local market, ceramics art and wine
Experience a local Abruzzese market in the beautiful town of Sulmona, home to confetti candy and the Roman poet Ovid. Lunch at the food trucks. After, head to see the last of a great ceramics artists of Bussi. Follow this up with a tour of a local boutique winery that has been run the same family for more than 220 years.
Pasta and Wine
Today after breakfast, our chefs Angela and Cesidia will teach you the fine art of making fresh pasta, which you get to eat for lunch. In the afternoon, we descend into our historic wine cellar for flight tasting of local vini.
